Many of you will have seen the recent evacuation alert for Camp OAC due to the Quilpituk Creek fire. As a precaution, we've paused access to the property and all on-site work — a decision made easily, given how quickly conditions can shift here. Thankfully, the fire remains a distance from camp and most of our current work is happening off-site, so we don't expect this to affect our timelines. We're grateful for your prayers as we watch the skies and hope for rain.
Moments like this are a reminder of why fire resilience has been built into every layer of the Camp OAC rebuild — not as an afterthought, but as a foundation.
Water systems designed with fire safety in mind. The new camp-wide water system will include both potable and non-potable lines. The non-potable lines are designed to support irrigation, camp activities, and fire safety needs, with increased pressure and flow across the site. A dedicated backup generator will keep the system running during power outages, so water stays available exactly when it's needed most.
Fire-resistant building materials. The new modular buildings are being constructed with fire safety built into every layer — from cement-fiber, fire-rated siding to fire-resistant roofing membranes and non-combustible mesh screening at the eaves, a detail that matters when embers are in the air.
Camp OAC has come through the fire, building stronger for the next generation of campers.
